Welcome to this photo gallery website of my ethnographic fieldwork in India. I am a professor emerita in the Department of Religion at Emory University. As an ethnographer of religious traditions in India (primarily Hinduism and Islam), I have conducted long-term fieldwork in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh, the Deccani city of Hyderabad, the south Indian pilgrimage town of Tirupati, and the Himalayan hill station of Mussoorie. (See “About” for a map of these research sites.) Because visuality and color is so key to this research, I have created this website to expand the visual archive beyond the photographs published in my books.
